Insight Walks

An insight walk is an experience which can help boost clarity, presence and self esteem. It can bring answers to some deep questions, or perhaps help you process a big change in your life. It can also help you develop your deep reverence for nature, allowing you time alone to reflect and just to be with the landscape, elements and non-human beings.

Facilitated by Laurie, and held by the landscape. What better place to do that than the incredibly dramatic and beautiful Isle of Eigg?

What it involves:

Getting to know the island. Laurie will guide you around the island, equip you with maps and point out landmarks the day before your walk. This session will last around 4 hours.

Intention setting. An intention helps define why it is you are doing the walk. It may be about helping you to mark or celebrate something you have already done, but it might also equip you with the understanding of who you have to become as you go through changes in your life. Laurie will ask you questions and help you refine an intention. This session will last 1-2 hours.

Threshold crossing. This is the beginning and end of your walk – the place where you state your intention for the insight walk.

The walk. The walk will be anywhere between 4-12 hours, designed to suit you and your needs. During this time, you follow your body and your instincts. The main purpose of this time is to be and to let what happens happen without having a predetermined plan and any distractions. You will notice plants and animals, as well as other signs in the landscape that will capture your attention. You will do this walk alone.

Story sharing: You will be invited to share your story, with Laurie as your witness. She will offer some reflections. The purpose of this stage is for you to be seen and heard and for you to gain more clarity on what the walk meant for you. This session will last approximately 1 hour.

Integration. Laurie will offer a follow up check-in call 4-6 weeks after the walk, to explore how you are integrating your insights into your life.

Where does this practice come from?

Pilgrimages and reflective walks have been practiced by many different cultures for centuries, as ways of being connected with spirit and the land. In particular, Laurie has trained with the School of Lost Borders and EQE Outdoors, organisations that bring together indigenous American practices such as the medicine walk, with western psychology. She is grateful to the individuals and the communities that passed on their wisdom for the benefit of others.

What will it cost?

£300 for facilitation and guidance. This does not cover accommodation or travel. Laurie is happy to give travel advice and help with finding accommodation if you need.

Group bookings are available on request. It can be really powerful to do this as part of a group, although walks will be alone, the intention setting and story sharing can be a group process.

How do I book?

Testimonials

“Widowed in mid-life, after losing my beloved, I didn’t know where I belonged in the world. The beauty and serenity of the Isle of Eigg gave me the opportunity to meet Laurie. The support and guidance she provided for my walk helped me realize the value of being at home in my body.” H

Laurie offered a beautifully spacious structure for my New Year’s Day Insight Walk, helping me shape the questions I carried and meet whatever arose along the way. We closed the circle the next day and when we returned to it six weeks later, her gentle steadiness helped me see how the experience had settled. It was deeply illuminating, and it’s genuinely helped me shape the way ahead.” C
